What is Dance Improv

Dance improvisation (improv blended with dance) is the process of creating movement without pre-planning any steps or choreography. Free movement is a great way to have fun, relieve any stress and explore new ways to move and the best part is there are absolutely no rules!

Why I chose to create Dance Improv

Dance improv allows the body to express itself freely. At times, movements can alter the course of history with their unique flair, truth, and vulnerability. Dance is a powerful medium for telling stories. Dance improvisation provides us with the ability to express ourselves through our bodies.  Dance allows us to communicate stories via our movements, and these motions make us relatable within the dance community while also serving as the foundation for life-long connections.

How it works

Improvisation in dance is utilized for a variety of purposes, from the production of choreography to just expressing one's feelings and releasing energy. Allowing the mind to think about the actions the body is doing but not to overanalyze them is a key part of the art of improvisation.

Whose interests does dance improvisation serve?

Dancers can use improvisation to discover what kinds of movement patterns work best for them and discover their own personal style! They can gain a better understanding of the types of movements that are most comfortable for them as a result of honing this talent. Practicing improvisation with music can also improve one's ability to play instruments.
